Kenya is currently facing an unprecedented deterioration in its food security situation. Over 5.4 million people in the country are experiencing acute food insecurity, and this number is likely to deepen in the following months. This is a staggering number, and it underscores the need for urgent action to address the issue.
According to the latest data, the severity of food insecurity is expected to worsen again between March and June 2023, with about 5.4 million people facing high levels of acute food insecurity. Of these, 1.2 million people are likely to be in emergency situations. This is the highest magnitude and severity of acute food insecurity in Kenya's arid and semi-arid lands (ASAL) areas in years.
Urgent action is required to reduce food gaps, protect livelihoods, and prevent and treat acute malnutrition. At the Omeriye Foundation, we are committed to improving the food insecurity situation in Kenya. This year, we distributed food aid in various regions of the country, including Marsabit, Nairobi, Western Kenya, and Mombasa. We also donated hot meals to orphanages, mosques, and a prison as part of our Ramadan 2023 humanitarian projects
As a non-profit organization, we rely on the generosity of our donors to carry out our work. We cannot do this alone, and we need your help to make a difference in the lives of those affected by food insecurity in Kenya. Please consider making a donation to the Omeriye Foundation today. Every donation, no matter how small, can help us make a significant impact in the fight against food insecurity.
