The Omeriye Foundation, in collaboration with the Light Academy alumni Association and our partner charity, Embrace Relief, recently organized a free medical camp at Nakuru GK Prison in Kenya. The camp, which took place on June 10th, 2023, received an impressive turnout, in total, more than 1500 inmates receiving much-needed medical attention.
Our dedicated team of healthcare professionals diagnosed four new cases of diabetes and two cases of hypertension. These patients were promptly connected to appropriate care, ensuring they would receive ongoing support and treatment. Numerous other cases, including medical, surgical, and psychiatric conditions, were referred to the Nakuru Referral Hospital for further management.
After the camp, Approximately 2000 inmates, staff members, and volunteers were provided with hot meals. For many inmates, the opportunity to spend time in the open and indulge in a delicacy was a rare experience, possibly one they hadn't enjoyed in decades.
Yusuf Mahat, on behalf of the Omeriye Foundation and its partners, expressed sincere appreciation for the team spirit demonstrated by everyone involved in the medical camp. The collective effort of the donors, organizers, healthcare professionals, volunteers, and our partners from Embrace Relief contributed immensely to the success of the camp and its positive impact on the lives of the inmates.
