According to UNICEF, only 59% of people in Kenya have access to safe drinking water. 29% of people in Kenya have access to improved sanitation facilities.
The availability of clean and safe water is significantly impacted by climate change trends as well as the high cost of building infrastructure. Due in part to the unpredictable weather, Kenya has experienced problems with water supply over the years.
Unfortunately, lack of access to clean, safe water leads to the death of many children. Emergency room visits sometimes occur as a result of illnesses and conditions that are related to water, sanitation, and hygiene. Diarrhoea continues to be one of the main causes of child fatalities. According to the World Health Organisation, every year, around 525,000 children under five years die due to diarrhoeal disease
Having access to clean water also saves time. Many Kenyans frequently heavy carry jerry cans and travel great distances to get water that is often far from safe.
The Omeriye Foundation is working to find a long-term solution to this issue through a clean donor-funded water project that involves the drilling of water wells and the provision of water tanks for those in need.
Most of our projects have been in the coastal regions of Tana River and Malindi , but we have plans to initiate drilling projects in other areas of Kenya.
